“ We believe ourselves to be that which has been projected upon us through the words and actions of those around us in childhood.” - Virginia Satir.
Why are these words so important? When an individual has been shamed in childhood and then again in significant adult relationships it can affect their “self-picture”. This in turn affects the way they establish and maintain other relationships.
When we have been shamed we spend a great deal of energy trying to hide that negative image from others to the point that we begin to forget who we really are. The fear of being seen can interfere with being vulnerable in adult relationships and this can interfere with building a healthy relationship bridge.
This ten-week class is designed to provide a safe space for participants to explore the foundations of healthy self-esteem, including:
Recognizing your inherent worth and adequacy.
Understanding how competence is learned but can be compromised when those around you do not nurture your strengths.
What is healthy self-esteem?
How do self-esteem, self-image, and the ideal self differ?
How can positive and negative emotions be used for self-growth and understanding others?
What does it mean to live consciously and mindfully?
How do I build inner security and develop inner strength?
What are my personal rights as a human being?
How do I create healthy boundaries?
How can these concepts improve my intimate relationships?
Over ten weeks, Margaret will lead you through a blend of lectures, discussions, and activities that will equip you with practical tools to improve relationships with family, friends, partners, and colleagues.
